Prompt

Please provide me with a [XXX-word] text on the subject of [topic] and include the following vocabulary terms: [insert topic specific vocabulary]. The level of the text should be CEFR [insert level].

e.g. Please provide me with a 200 word text on the subject of sustainability in business and include the following vocabulary terms: conscious, consumerism, and Corporate Social Responsibility. The level of the text should be CEFR B2+.

An AI response example

Sustainability in business is increasingly recognized as a crucial component in the global effort to combat environmental degradation and ensure a healthy planet for future generations. At the heart of this movement lies the concept of conscious consumerism, which encourages individuals to make

purchasing decisions that are environmentally sustainable and ethically sound. Consumers are now more informed and selective, opting for products that not only meet their needs but also align with their values regarding environmental protection and social responsibility.

This shift in consumer behavior has prompted companies to integrate sustainability into their core operations, marking a significant turn towards Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). CSR encompasses a broad range of practices, from reducing carbon footprints and enhancing energy efficiency to supporting local communities and ensuring fair labor practices. By adopting CSR initiatives, businesses not only contribute to the well-being of the environment and society but also build trust and loyalty among their customers. This symbiotic relationship between businesses and conscious consumers creates a virtuous cycle that propels the global economy towards sustainable growth.

Moreover, companies that prioritize sustainability often discover innovative solutions that drive efficiency and profitability, proving that ethical business practices and economic success are not mutually exclusive but can go hand in hand. In summary, the convergence of conscious consumerism and Corporate Social Responsibility represents a transformative force in the business world, steering it towards a more sustainable and equitable future.

AI: Certainly! Here's a multiple choice task for you to review the synonyms of the words you've learned:

Modest : a) Humble b) Boastful c) Arrogant What's your answer for "modest"?

Comments from prompt provider

After I used it in my EAP033 classrooms with my three groups of students, I found that some students still had questions about the vocabulary explanations in the AI responses.

Besides, several students told me the answers were sometimes wrong.

Comments from prompt provider

This material is used when my 1st year EAP students are preparing for their research project presentations. They are often confused with the difference between these terms when introducing their research data and findings. This prompt can provide a practical learning process and also give more scenarios during practice.

One interesting notice is that if I don't put " I want my students to be able to differentiate these terms through these questions. " at the end of the follow-up prompt question, ChatGPT will generate the MCQ questions without a 2nd personal tone, such as asking "Which term best describes what the student is doing?" instead of asking "what is the task you need to do?"

Please give me 3 arguments in favor of free trade.

    An AI response example

Certainly, here are three arguments in favor of free trade:

    • Economic Efficiency: Free trade allows countries to specialize in the production of goods and services in which they have a comparative advantage. This specialization leads to efficient resource allocation and higher overall productivity, benefiting consumers through lower prices and a wider variety o goods.
    • Increased Competition: Free trade encourages competition by exposing domestic industries to foreign competition. This can lead to greater innovation, improved efficiency, and better quality products as companies strive to remain competitive in the global market.
    • Global Cooperation and Peace: Free trade can promote global cooperation and peace by fostering economic interdependence between countries. When nations are mutually dependent on each other for trade, they have a vested interest in maintaining peaceful relations and resolving conflicts through diplomatic means.

These arguments suggest that free trade can lead to economic benefits, increased competition, and global cooperation.
